A ferry-boat on the river
She is a rippling wave
from bank to river bank
Plying Gliding Carrying
busy cargoes of chattering people.

I am an onlooker sitting on the steps
Watching the ferry come and go
And turn back again, oblivious
Of me. I dare not
I dare not go down to the water below.
